How the Great Pumpkin Farm started
The Great Pumpkin Farm started way back in 1996 when it hosted the World Pumpkin Confederation Weigh Off. In fact, they made it into the Guinness Book of World Records because they were the first to have a pumpkin that’s as heavy as 1000lb! Since then, the farm has been growing and improving year after year. There has always been an addition to their attractions on a yearly basis, making the place more exciting to visit.
Great Pumpkin Farm Activities
There are many exciting activities that guests get to enjoy when they visit the farm, and the interesting part is that there are different sets of activities during the weekdays and weekends. For the daily activities, you can enjoy Petting Zoo, Hay Maze, Pumpkin Picking, and a Corn Maze. There is also a wide selection of festive food that you should not miss during fall. There is even a photo competition which you can join in if you have a great and an amusing photo of yourself or your friends, so make sure that you don’t forget to bring your camera during your visit. This photo competition is something that happens every year and you can join as many times as you want. But wait, there’s more! If you happen to visit during the weekdays, you won’t have to pay for the admission because weekdays are free!
On the other hand, if you choose to visit during the weekends, there are far more exciting and “spooky” events awaiting those who are brave enough to dare. There’s the Haunted House, the Haunted Museum and Boo Bam which are open on weekends. However, if you are not a fan of scary events, you can still enjoy the farm because hayrides are also available, as well as a pumpkin cannon and gem mining. There are even contests held during Saturdays and Sundays, and it will even be more exciting if your family can join. There are the pie eating contests, scarecrow making competition, mummy wrapping, pumpkin decorating, magic shows, face painting and a whole lot more.
Every weekend comes with different and unique events which means that no two weekends are going to be the same; but of course, you will surely have the same level of fun and excitement. The first weekend is going to be the opening weekend and it means that all attractions will be open for everyone. This is also called the Dinosaurs in the Cornmaze Weekend and the Armed Forces Weekend. If you come on the opening weekend, your admission will be free and you can also bring a guest with you for free. You just have to make sure that they bring with them a valid ID. The succeeding weekends will have the events namely Oinktoberfest BBQ Cookoff, World Pumpkin Weigh Off, Pumpkin Olympics and Pumpkin Drop, World Pumpkin Pie Eating Competition and Pig Races, the Trebuchet Competition and another Dinosaurs in the Cornmaze weekend, and finally, the Costume Contest together with the final Dinosaurs and Cornmaze weekend. All of these sound like amazing events that everyone can look forward to, and there’s no reason why you should miss it this year!
Aside from the activities, the Great Pumpkin farm also offers farm tours and school field trips which are going to be available during the weekdays. These are open to schools, seniors, daycares and those who are taking special education. The farm is already accepting reservations for this coming fall. This is an excellent chance for children and guests to witness the many varieties of pumpkins and watch them grow. These pumpkins all come in different colors, shapes and sizes and can be seen in one of the largest pumpkin patches in the world. What’s in the Pumpkin Palace
The Great Pumpkin Farm also features the Pumpkin Palace which opens and closes the same time the farm does. Here you will find souvenirs, handmade crafts and decorations which are Halloween themed. If you want to do some decorations in your house for the fall, don’t forget to drop by the general store. The bars and cafes, and the other food spots can also be found in the Pumpkin Palace.

If you are a September or October birthday celebrant or if you have an important family gathering, you can let the Great Pumpkin Farm become a part of that special celebration! There are picnic tables available for rentals, but whether rain or shine, the party can go on because these tables are set up under the covered pavilion area on the grounds of the farm. You can make a 3 hour long reservation for your event, and you can invite as many as 100 guests!
